Stop envying other people’s success.
You’re mesmerised by their glory, but you don’t know their story.
If the success has come legally (and I mean that both in a physical & spiritual sense), you don’t see:
the prayers
the sacrifices
the cries for mercy
the discipline
the course corrections
the delayed gratification
the study
the mentorship
the repentance
the hard work
the consistency
the destiny swap reversals
the boundaries
the strategic relationships
the humility
the building up
the tearing down
the extending forgiveness
the being forgiven
the overcoming insecurity
the waiting seasons
the audacity
the tentative starts
the false starts
the faith
the planned endings
the forced endings
the healing from trauma
the free labour
the overcoming betrayal
the highs
the lows
and everything in between
that has led to the success you see today.
Stop envying the beautiful flowers in someone else’s garden; lest you start to believe that what cost them everything can be obtained & sustained by you who has not paid anything.
That kind of belief is what turns you from a mesmerised fan to a one sided competitor. And when you find out you cannot compete (because you have not paid the price of admission):
you will try to take it for yourself
and if that doesn’t work,
you will try to reduce it or taint it in some way
and if you don’t succeed,
you will try to get rid of it completely.
Does that pattern sound familiar? “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…” John 10:10a
Envy is a sure fire way of becoming a tool in the hands of Satan, and such a tool can only build one kingdom and it ain’t the kingdom of God.
If you would like to break free from envy, please pray the prayer below and feel free to return to it as many times as you need to.
Prayer:
Father, I repent for where I have allowed envy fester in my heart.
I recognise that because of the envy in my heart, I have participated in evil works (James 3:16). Have mercy on me Lord.
Lord, I ask that You please heal the parts of my soul that are wounded and have given envy a landing zone.
I break my agreement with envy & selfish ambition today and sever soul ties with all that has to do with envy & unbridled ambition.
Lord, I ask that You please restore all broken parts my soul and that You make me whole. Give me grace to walk this journey of soul healing with You, until You have done a complete work in me.
Father, where the enemy has stolen, killed or destroyed what belongs to another as a result of my actions, I ask that You have mercy and restore to them x7 of what the enemy took from them through my actions.
Father, please heal their hearts too and give them the grace to forgive and let go.
Father, bless me with my own. I know You are a good Father and your Kingdom is a kingdom of abundance, so I ask today that You bless me with my own and give me what I need to sustain Your blessing in my life.
Father, cause my life to bloom, so that every aspect of my life will give You glory. Thank you for making my life beautiful.
